Vapors from volatile chemicals in contaminated soil and groundwater have the potential to seep into indoor spaces, thus negatively impacting the indoor air quality of overlying buildings. This process of volatile chemical migration from the subsurface into overlying buildings is referred to as Vapor Intrusion (VI). In some cases, volatile chemical vapors can accumulate in indoor spaces, posing human health problems.
