Fort Dalles Museum donates tree to Columbia Gorge Discovery Center with the help of local PUD
Thank you to Northern Wasco County PUD who donated manpower and trucks to transport this 34-foot 10-1/2 inch long pine log to our Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum's parking lot from Fort Dalles Museum. It is one of three pine trees taken down at the Fort after the big windstorm on January 13 blew a section of one of the pines down on the Surgeon's Quarters, damaging the roof. The hope is this tree can be made into a dugout canoe. We've called upon Jefferson Greene, who is bravely taking this on as a project. Thanks also to Eric Gleason and Loyal Quackenbush, both on the Wasco Co./City of The Dalles Museum Commission for Fort Dalles, for tackling this herculean project of finding a community partner who had the ability to hoist a tree trunk that weighs nearly 10,000 pounds.
