Child Care Counselor 1
Hiring for Full Time & Part Time
Pay Rate: Up to $50,000.00 annually (including benefits bonus incentives)
Responsibilities:
 
The Child Care Counselor 1 shall serve in the capacity of providing security and supervision to placed youth. 
 
Duties:
 
  1. Make constant thirty (30) minutes room checks.
  2. Make constant hourly grounds security checks.
  3. Prepare all necessary paper work for the following day activities.  (i.e. Population count sheets, room assignments, incentive sheets for merit ladder, and all other related paperwork)
  4. Respond to all noise or unusual incidents.
  5. Awaken youth for their daily activities and school.
  6. Supervise chores.
  7. Complete annual staff trainings, depending on the weekly work schedule.
  8. Work weekends as required.
  9. Enforce staff disciplinary procedures.
  10. Enforce all medication procedures.
  11. Enforce home-pass and visitation procedures.  
  12. Enforce all rules and policies of the program.
  13. Supervise the serving of meals and snacks.
  14. Ensure the facility is clean and ready for inspection at all times and also inspect it for any damages.
  15. Transport minors in their personal vehicle.
  16. Conduct daily van inspection checks, for any vehicle damages.
  17. Enforce Title 22 regulations.
  18. Participate in peer reviews.
  19. Participate in agency/program performance and quality improvement projects.
  20. Adhere to agency safety protocols.
Position Requirements: 

Shall meet at least one of the qualifications specified in subdivision (A) and have relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities as specified in subdivision (B).


(A) Direct care staff shall meet one of the following qualifications:
1. Have obtained a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree.
2. Have obtained a valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
3. Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education,
Adolescent Development, Foster and Kinship Care Education,
or Psychology and have completed at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth.


      i. The 100 hours of on-the-job experience may be completed after starting employment at the facility. 

      Pending completion of the 100 hours, staff shall not be counted in the staff to child ratio and shall not be left unsupervised with children.


4. Have a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have completed at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth.
      i. The 100 hours of on-the-job experience may be completed after starting employment at the facility.        
      Pending completion of the 100 hours, staff shall not be counted in the staff to child ratio and shall not be left unsupervised with children.

5. Have a valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth, children or adults, as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, caregiver within a residential setting, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.

6. Previously been employed as a full time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year.

7. Have relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or life experience with children who have experienced high levels of trauma, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.


(B) At a minimum, a direct care staff shall demonstrate all of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:


1. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children served in a children’s residential setting.
2. Skills and ability to engage and develop a rapport with children who have diverse backgrounds.
3. Skills and ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.
4. Skills to communicate effectively with the to solve problems in a collaborative manner.
